TomTom sells PNDs and guidance software in over 30 countries, mainly in Europe and North America, with still low penetration levels. Markets outside of these two main regions include Australia, Brazil, New Zealand, South Africa and Taiwan.
In Europe, only around 25% of the 250 million cars on the road are equipped with some kind of navigation device, while in various surveys more than 40% of car drivers indicate that they would be very interested in a navigation solution.
The North American market is catching up quickly with the European market with currently around 20% of the 250 million cars being equipped with navigation devices.
Tele Atlas provides comprehensive maps that include detailed street-level and interconnecting road networks for nearly 80 countries around the world, covering 27 million kilometers of roads.
